Repotting Things

This weekend we repotted all of the plants in our house. The ZZ plant (in the forefront of the picture) started out as a small shrub when we first moved here. Now it has become two enormous plants, each taller than a window pane. It's amazing how things continue to grow even when you forget that time is passing. This must be how it feels to have kids, or a dog.

We packed them all neatly in soil we bought from Home Depot, preparing to pass them on to friends and family to keep while we are abroad. One shouldn't grow too attached to things. While I was shaking all the old dirt out of the roots I was reminded of a post by my friend AL about restlessness. Perhaps we too need to be shaken out every once in a while lest the soil grow mold.
